AIMSAD Woodworking Machinery Sector Report, prepared using TURKSTAT (Turkish Statistical Instute) foreign trade data, has been published. According to the report, while export- oriented growth in the sector continued, the downward trend in import rates also continued. When the market data is examined, it is seen that the Turkish woodworking machinery sector achieved exports of 61 million 389 thousand dollars and imports of 36 million 550 thousand dollars in the first 5 months of the year.
The Turkish woodworking machinery industry, which has set an export target of 180 million dollars for the end of 2024, continues its steady growth. According to the data in the Woodworking Machinery Sector Report prepared using TURKSTAT foreign trade data; in the sector, exports of 61 million 389 thousand dollars and imports of 36 million 550 thousand dollars were recorded in the January-May period. In the same period, production increased to 151 million 578 thousand dollars, while domestic sales amounted to 126 million 739 thousand dollars. During the period when the export-import coverage ratio was recorded as 168 percent, the foreign trade balance was 24 million 838 thousand dollars.
Russia became the largest partner in machinery exports in the first 5 months
Expanding its export markets every year, the Turkish woodworking machinery industry sold the most machinery to Russia with 5 million 161 thousand dollars in the January-May period of 2024. The second largest export market of the sector was Bulgaria with 2 million 837 thousand dollars. Kosovo, which ranked third, was followed by Algeria, where furniture imports are prohibited. Other countries to which woodworking machinery was exported during the period covered by the report were the USA, Iraq, the United Kingdom, Georgia and Saudi Arabia and Spain respectively.
Exported machine groups
When the data on the exported machine groups were examined, it was seen that the first place was the other machines group with 16 million 864 thousand dollars. This was followed by sawing machines with 15 million 255 thousand dollars and planing, milling or molding (by cutting) machines with 8 million 580 thousand dollars.
Sawing machines come first in imports
During the period subject to the report, Türkiye imported the most saw machines with 8 million 651 thousand dollars. While machines that perform various machine operations without changing tools were in second place with 7 million 695 thousand dollars, machines in the others group were in third place with 5 million 570 thousand dollars.
China, Italy and Germany led the import markets
According to the data published by TURKSTAT, the decline in import figures in the woodworking machinery sector continued. Compared to the same period last year, import rates decreased by 7.55 percent. In the first 5 months of the year, Türkiye imported the most machinery from the important players of the sector: China, Italy and Germany. In the January-May period, Türkiye imported 13 million 803 thousand dollars of machinery from China, 11 million 537 thousand dollars from Italy and 6 million 694 thousand dollars from Germany. Machinery imports from these 3 countries constituted 52 percent of total machinery imports.
