AİMSAD has published the Woodworking Machinery Industry Report. When examining the data presented in the report, it is observed that, despite the effects of the global economic downturn, the balanced export performance of the Turkish woodworking machinery sector continued in the January-August 2024 period.

AİMSAD published the Woodworking Machinery Industry Report, which it compiled from the foreign trade data released by TURKSTAT (Turkish Statistical Instute). According to the data presented in the report, during the first 7 months of the year, production amounted to 210 million 044 thousand dollars, exports to 85 million 068 thousand dollars, imports to 54 million 378 thousand dollars, and domestic sales to 179 million 355 thousand dollars. Additionally, during the January-August period, the export-to-import ratio stood at 156%, while the foreign trade balance reached approximately 31 million dollars.

88% of total imports came from 3 countries

When examining the data in the report, it was observed that the decline in import rates in the Turkish woodworking machinery sector, which has continued since 2017, persisted. In the first 7 months of the year, China and Italy were the top two countries from which Türkiye imported the most machinery, while there was a decline in machinery imports from Germany. During the January-August period, Türkiye imported 20 million 230 thousand dollars worth of machinery from China, 18 million 301 thousand dollars from Italy, and 9 million 144 thousand dollars from Germany. Imports from these three countries accounted for approximately 88% of total imports.

Machines classified under the others group maintained their lead in exports

During the January-August 2024 period, the highest export was in the “others” group of machines, amounting to 24 million 094 thousand dollars. Sawing machines ranked second with 20 million 566 thousand dollars, while planing, milling or molding (by cutting) machines took third place with 12 million 557 thousand dollars. During this period, the lowest export was recorded for splitting, slicing or paring machines, totaling 852 thousand dollars.

Sawing machines were the most imported group in the first 7 months of the year

When looking at the groups of imported machines, it was observed that Türkiye imported 13 million 024 thousand dollars worth of sawing machines during the January-August period. This was followed by different machine operations without tool changes between operations, with 10 million 929 thousand dollars, and machines classified under the “others” group with 8 million 764 thousand dollars.
